The Podere la Piana farm holiday centre is in Lunigiana, an area of Tuscany bordering on Liguria and Emilia Romagna. It covers about 30 hectares, much of it being taken up by Turkey oak woodland and the rest consisting of vineyards, olive groves, orchards, vegetable plots and herb beds farmed using certified organic methods.
It has also adopted the biodynamic farming method, which abides by the rules laid down by philosopher Rudolf Steiner, founder of the anthroposophic movement, which saw an interactive connection between man and the cosmic forces, with a view to enhancing food quality and vitality.
The farm is family-run and is home to farmyard animals and donkeys, which may be taken on excursions.
"Walking with a donkey is a tonic for the soul; every step takes you closer back to your real self."
how nearby over the Lunigiana are:
in Tuscany: the marble quarries of Carrara, Versilia, Lucca, Pisa, Siena and Florence.
in Liguria: Gulf of La Spezia to Lerici and Portovenere, 5 Terre, the Gulf of Tigullio with Rapallo, Santa Margherita and Portofino, and the city of Genoa.
